The role of technology in promoting sports participation among college students
摘要
Engagement in sports activities regularly is one of the most important reasons for good health in contemporary society. Sports education, aided by technological means, is a critical area for increasing students’ health and supporting national health goals. The present research discusses the determinants of participation in sports training among college students and investigates how computer-based technologies affect this process. Primary data were gathered by conducting a questionnaire survey of 405 physical education students, where analysis was performed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Modeling. Findings indicated that sports participation is influenced significantly by social support (from family and friends), health status, campus facilities and safety, self-efficacy, perceived enjoyment, and self-motivation. Most importantly, the students indicated enhanced motivation and frequency when they employed wearable fitness trackers and mobile applications for monitoring performance. Health status was the most significant determinant of participation. Path coefficients for such associations were substantial (e.g., social support → sports participation: path coefficient = 0.815, p < 0.01). The study suggests incorporating digital technologies like fitness trackers and virtual coaching platforms to encourage active lifestyles among college students.
