<p>This year marks the 26th anniversary of the death of Eric Robert Wolf, one of the most influential Marxist thinkers of the twentieth century. This article pays tribute to the life and times of Eric in Puerto Rico. Eric and his first wife Katia lived in Barrio Pozas, Ciales, during 1948–1949, when both were fieldworkers for the well-known “Puerto Rico project.” This article shares fieldwork stories never heard before, but which speak volumes of the way Eric experienced the Puerto Rican jíbaro culture at a time of seismic change. Drawing upon the copious notes that form the bulk of <i>Eric R. Wolf Puerto Rico Fieldwork</i> papers preserved at the Michigan University Bentley Historical Archive, I highlight anecdotes that reveal that the scholar we today remember had much more than a passing affair with my natal lands.</p>

摘要
