Purpose <p>Pancreatitis has emerged as a significant public health concern worldwide.&#xa0;However, in China, systematic epidemiological research on pediatric pancreatitis&#xa0;remains scarce. This study aims to provide insights into the geographic distribution and sociodemographic characteristics of affected children, as well as to track epidemiological trends.</p> Methods <p>Between January 2016 and December 2022, data were collected from the “FUTURE” database. Fuzzy string matching techniques were initially employed to identify the pancreatitis cases. Subsequently, two gastroenterologists manually reviewed and validated the diagnoses. Data on sociodemographic characteristics, clinical management, and healthcare expenses were gathered. The regional socioeconomic status was assessed using the Human Development Index (HDI) and the Sociodemographic Index (SDI).</p> Results <p>Pediatric pancreatitis in China predominantly affects school-aged children, with higher prevalence rates in East and North China. Notably, there are significant variations in both age and regional distribution. The total number of pancreatitis cases has been increasing annually, although the growth rate has slowed in the past three years (2020–2022). Children with acute pancreatitis face higher hospitalization costs and more extended hospital stays, with those who develop acute respiratory distress syndrome experiencing an even greater disease burden.</p> Conclusion <p>Efforts to improve early recognition and intervention for both acute and chronic pancreatitis should be prioritized. Furthermore, medical resource allocation must be strengthened, with intervention strategies tailored to account for age and regional disparities. Based on the HDI and SDI indices, particular attention should be given to improving diagnostic and treatment capabilities in underdeveloped regions to reduce disease burden and complication rates effectively.</p>
