<p>This study examines the geographical patterns of buying trafficked women in China from 2014 to 2020, focusing on the legal and extralegal factors that influence this issue. Analyzing sentencing documents related to Article 241 of the Chinese criminal law from China Judgements Online, descriptive statistics, spatial network analysis and Poisson regression models are utilized in this study. The analysis highlights the comparatively more lenient treatment of buyers under Chinese law compared to sellers. Findings suggest that the current criminal sanction may have limited impact on reducing the buying of trafficked women. This study proposes enhancing criminal accountability for buyers through reforms at both the legislative and judicial levels, supplemented by restorative justice approaches, in order to better prevent and control trafficking-related crimes.</p>
