Cytotoxic Polyprenylated Acylphloroglucinols from Hypericum uralum

A chemical investigation on the whole plant of Hypericum uralum afforded two previously undescribed polycyclic polyprenylated derivatives, hyperuralines A and B (1 and 2). The structures of the new compounds were elucidated by spectral methods such as 1D and 2D (1H–1H COSY, HMQC, and HMBC) NMR spectroscopy, together with high-resolution mass spectrometry. The isolated compounds were tested in vitro for cytotoxic activity against three human tumour cell lines. As a result, compound 2 exhibited modest cytotoxic potential against the three tested tumour cell lines (MGC-803, BGC-823, and SGC-7901) with IC50 values of 14.6 ± 3.3, 17.5 ± 4.1, 15.7 ± 3.9 μM, respectively.
