Phenolic Compounds from Leaves of Populus alba

Isoquercitrin, isorhamnetin 3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside, catechol, and a new natural compound with the structure 6′-O-caffeoylsalicin were isolated for the first time from leaves of white poplar (Populus alba L.) together with salicin, which is known for this plant. The chemical structures of the isolated phenolic compounds were studied using UV, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and chemical transformations.
