Enhancing disaster readiness: a comprehensive review of IoT-enabled WSN path planning for effective emergency response
摘要
Integrated systems leveraging Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) and the Internet of Things (IoT) are revolutionizing large-scale disaster monitoring by offering high efficiency in emergency responses. A significant challenge in IoT-enabled WSNs, especially for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), is path planning, which involves determining the optimal route between the source and the destination. UAVs are increasingly utilized in path planning by focusing on determining the shortest and most efficient routes to minimize energy consumption and optimize resource usage. This paper reviews the applications of IoT-enabled WSNs in disaster management, emphasizing the critical role of path planning for effective emergency response. It also discusses various factors influencing path planning in IoT-enabled WSNs and categorizes different path planning algorithms. Moreover, the paper reviews numerous path planning algorithms and their applications in various disaster scenarios, highlighting their advantages, disadvantages, and potential for enhancing disaster readiness and response. Finally, the performance analysis of existing literature identifies several research gaps that need to be addressed to develop smarter and more resilient cities.
