Tropes and the EmotAix lexicon for evaluating the emotional tonality of French verbal association corpora in social representation studies
摘要
This paper presents three studies in which the Tropes software (version 8.5.0), enhanced with the EmotAix lexicon, was used to identify emotionally connoted words in three corpora of verbal associations. The first study focuses on a corpus related to global warming and compares the Tropes-EmotAix results with those of 80 judges. The second study focuses on a corpus related to Science and compares the results of Tropes-EmotAix with the evaluations of the valence of the verbal associations produced by 78 participants themselves. The third study focuses on a corpus related to War and compares the results of Tropes-EmotAix with the emotions self-reported by 248 participants. The results of the three studies are convergent and suggest that the use of the EmotAix lexicon via the Tropes software could be a simple and effective solution for evaluating the emotional connotation of corpora of verbal associations in studies of social representations carried out with French-speaking populations.
