<p>In this study, barium fluoroborate, classified among special boron products with significant application potential, was synthesized using mechanochemical and wet chemical methods. In the first method, a yield of 61.24% was achieved under optimal conditions of an elemental boron-to-barium fluoride molar ratio (nB/nBaF<sub>2</sub>) of 0.85 and a reaction duration of 2000&#xa0;min. In the alternative wet chemical method, fluoroboric acid and barium peroxide were used as reactants. Optimal conditions were determined as a molar ratio (nHBF<sub>4</sub>/nBaO<sub>2</sub>) of 1:3, a temperature of 60&#xa0;°C, and a reaction time of 120&#xa0;min, resulting in a yield of 98.05%. The synthesized barium fluoroborate samples were characterized using FT-IR, particle size analysis, XRD, XRF and TGA techniques. In the final phase of the study, parametric investigations were conducted to evaluate the applicability of barium fluoroborate to cotton fabrics. LOI test results confirmed that barium fluoroborate is an effective flame retardant.</p>
