<p>Recycled pulps typically demonstrate reduced drainage rates and diminished strength in comparison to virgin pulps, which may result in a deterioration of paper quality during the production process. This highlights the challenges associated with using recycled pulp in paper manufacturing. The study examined the effects of sodium sulfite and sodium carbonate on the quality of paper made from recycled pulp. Findings revealed that increasing the dosages of these chemicals improved paper quality by enhancing fiber flexibility and removing lignin and ink particles. Optimal levels for quality enhancement were found to be over 2% sodium sulfite and 1.5% sodium carbonate. The use of 3–4% sodium sulfite and 1.5–2% sodium carbonate resulted in superior optical and strength properties. Additionally, UV spectrum analysis confirmed lignin removal, which correlated with effective ink elimination. The research also noted that higher concentrations of sodium sulfite improved deinking efficiency, while sodium carbonate concentrations should not exceed 2.5% for optimal results. Furthermore, the chemicals enhanced pulp drainage and significantly reduced BOD<sub>5</sub> (biological oxygen demand) and COD (chemical oxygen demand) levels in the effluent, promoting safer environmental discharge and contributing to more sustainable paper production practices.</p>
