Adsorption and Catalytic Activity of Ion Exchange Resins Derived from Petroleum Asphaltenes with Copper(II) and Manganese(II) Cations
摘要
A study was carried out on the structural group composition and adsorption properties of sulfonated petroleum asphaltenes relative to copper(II) and manganese(II) cations obtained under mild (Sp‑1) and harsh conditions (Sp‑2). Langmuir, Freundlich, Dubinin‑Radushkevich, and Temkin adsorption isotherms reliably describe the adsorption process. The calculated thermodynamic parameters indicate that the process is spontaneous and physical in nature. Higher static exchange capacity was found for Sp‑1 asphaltenes, which have greater adsorption capacity relative to copper(II) cations than to manganese(II) cations. Ion exchange resins derived from sulfonated asphaltenes with adsorbed copper(II) cations can serve as highly efficient heterogeneous catalysts for the oxidation of hydroquinone by means of hydrogen peroxide.
