<p>Invasion genomics is a growing field that seeks to improve management outcomes and advance understanding of the key evolutionary mechanisms that underpin biological invasion. With non-native species introductions on the rise, and predicted to increase in frequency and impact, these foci are increasingly important. Yet, current approaches to invasion genomics research can sometimes miss opportunities with respect to experimental design and data analysis. For example, a comprehensive understanding of invasion requires comparison of the native and introduced ranges, but this is often not attempted—leaving key signatures of adaptation pre- and post-invasion potentially undiscovered. Here, we provide six key recommendations on appropriate methods of experimental design and appropriate choices of data and analysis types for researchers that are considering incorporating genomic tools into their research programmes. Applying these recommendations will provide a more comprehensive understanding of the evolutionary drivers of invasion success and more effective ways to use genomic tools to enhance invasive species management outcomes.</p>
