<p>A common marine invasive species in eastern North America and northern Europe, the Asian shore crab <i>Hemigrapsus sanguineus</i>, occurs at variable densities among invaded rocky intertidal habitats. We used higher-frequency field sampling to examine population characteristics at locations with historically different populations in southern New England. Crab densities, sizes, and reproductive status were measured for a population on the open coast of Massachusetts and one within the Narraganset Bay estuary, Rhode Island, approximately every other week for 6–7&#xa0;months spanning the reproductive season for 3 consecutive years. Results show variable population densities within and between locations, and across seasons. Very high densities were consistently found in the estuarine location. Reproduction began earlier at the estuarine than the coastal location, and female crabs in the estuary reproduced at smaller sizes. Maternal investment in embryos varied with female size and increased during the reproductive season. Temperature emerged as an important driver of reproductive seasonality. Recruitment occurred primarily in the late summer and fall months. Monitoring populations with higher frequency at multiple locations yielded insights about the population dynamics of this invasive marine species that could be missed with less frequent monitoring.</p>
