摘要

The fish rotan Perccottus glenii (Odontobutidae) is one of the most successful invaders in freshwater environments, damaging native ecosystems. Its invaded range has covered over 100 longitudinal degrees in northern Eurasia since 1916, including West Siberia, during the last 50 years. We used a combination of spatio-temporal analysis of records, molecular genetic, and parasitological analyses to investigate history of its expansion in a considerable part of the Ob’-Irtysh river basin, West Siberia. The current analyses reveal at least five historical long-distance introductions within the study area. We have described likely sources, pathways, overall dynamics, introduction vectors and invasion stages. Different methodological approaches provide mutually corroborating or complementary results that are valuable for comprehensive conclusions. The advantages, disadvantages and limitations of different methods for understanding invasion history are discussed. Our investigation demonstrates the advantages of a combined approach with simultaneous use of several different methods aimed at decoding the past. This combined approach could be applied to other invaders.
