<p>A&#xa0;criterion for selecting materials for manufacturing medical phantoms able to ensure that the ultrasound image obtained using the phantom is identical to the image of the real organ simulated by the phantom obtained during ultrasound diagnostic procedures, is theoretically substantiated. The theoretical results presented here were obtained as a&#xa0;solution to the wave equation describing the propagation of an acoustic wave pulse in an inhomogeneous biological medium. The criterion for selecting a&#xa0;material for producing phantoms is formulated on the basis of calculation of the magnitude of the acoustic signal scattered by the inhomogeneous medium under study, depending on variations in density and compressibility at the boundaries of structural formations.</p>

A criterion for selecting materials for manufacturing medical phantoms able to ensure that the ultrasound image obtained using the phantom is identical to the image of the real organ simulated by the phantom obtained during ultrasound diagnostic procedures, is theoretically substantiated.
