Monte Carlo modeling of light propagation in rat sciatic nerve optoelectronic biostimulation

摘要

We report here studies on the propagation of light in biotissue for biostimulation of the sciatic nerve in rats. Maps of relative flux intensity were obtained to solve the problem of the threshold excitation of bulk organic heterostructures—p-n junctions—by short light pulses with a central wavelength of 637 nm. Modeling was performed using the Monte Carlo method with 5,000,000 photon packets and a three-layer tissue model including the dermis, subcutaneous fat layer, and muscle layer. These studies determined the technical requirements for the formation of radiation for reliable creation of biopotentials in bulk heterostructures.
