Spodoptera litura nucleopolyhedrovirus (SpltNPV) is a significant biological control agent against noctuid pests such as Spodoptera litura and Helicoverpa armigera. In this study, we have determined the synergistic effects of SpltNPV-type crude (SpltNPV-T0) and commercial (SpltNPV-KY) agents, supplemented with Helicoverpa armigera nucleopolyhedrovirus (HearNPV), on controlling the larvae of S. litura and H. armigera in both laboratory and field experiments. The results showed that the HearNPV combined with SpltNPV exhibited significant synergistic effects. The median lethal concentration of SpltNPV-T0 + HearNPV on the third instar larvae of S. litura and H. armigera suggests they are 14.08 times and 8.79 times more virulent than that of the single agents, respectively. In contrast, SpltNPV-KY + HearNPV were 14.15 times and 5.15 times more lethal, respectively. Furthermore, the mixed virus had a shorter median lethal time against the larvae than the single agents. Field experiments demonstrated that applying SpltNPV-T0 + HearNPV mixture was more effective in controlling both S. litura and H. armigera in tobacco fields than using a single agent. The control effect of S. litura and H. armigera at ten days after mixture application was 88.46 ± 1.06% and 79.3 ± 2.11%, respectively, and significantly higher than that of single agents. In conclusion, the combining of HearNPV with SpltNPV enhanced the virulence against S. litura and H. armigera, providing new tools for effectively managing noctuid pests.

摘要

Spodoptera litura nucleopolyhedrovirus (SpltNPV) is a significant biological control agent against noctuid pests such as Spodoptera litura and Helicoverpa armigera. However, the speed of its lethality has hindered its practical application in the field.
