Effects of Intravenous and Subcutaneous Administration of Boron Particles on the Physiological Status of Immunodeficient SCID Mice

We studied the effects of a single administration of two types of boron particles coated with silane-PEG and produced either by laser fragmentation of boron-10 micropowder or by laser ablation of a solid target of enriched boron on body weight, the weight and histological structure of organs (kidney, liver, spleen, heart, lungs, and brain) and on blood parameters in immunodeficient SCID mice. The particles were injected subcutaneously and intravenously at doses of 10, 30, and 100 mg/kg. We observed a dose-dependent effect of boron particles on the lung and spleen weights, with larger particles inducing more pronounced changes. Intravenous administration of large particles at doses of 30 and 100 mg/kg was also associated with an increase in erythrocyte count. Histological examination revealed the presence of both large and small particles in the liver 2 weeks after a single intravenous administration at a dose of 100 mg/kg.
