Histomorphometric Evaluation of the Tissue Response to Xenogeneic Extracellular Peritoneal Matrix and Synthetic UltraPro Mesh under Conditions of Pseudomonas aeruginosa Infection
摘要
We performed a comparative histomorphometric assessment of the tissue responses to two types of implants, xenogeneic extracellular peritoneal matrix (ECM) and synthetic UltraPro mesh, in laboratory rats with modeled Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection. Histological evaluation was carried out on days 10 and 20 after implantation of the tested materials under the anterior abdominal wall. ECM induced a pronounced inflammatory response accompanied by tissue necrosis at early post-implantation terms and followed by progressive tissue remodeling. In contrast, the UltraPro mesh induced a milder acute inflammatory reaction with a tendency toward chronic inflammation and fibrous capsule formation. This findings support the importance of evaluating the infectious burden during implant selection in clinical practice.
