<p>We studied the effect of thick extract of <i>Potentilla anserina</i> L. on activities of antioxidant defense system enzymes in rat blood under conditions of induced stress. Antioxidant properties of the extract were preliminarily assessed by the reaction with 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl. Stress in animals was induced by forced swimming; the extract was administered preventively orally over 10 days. Preventive use of the extract in aqueous suspension produced an appreciable effect on stress-induced oxidative processes in neutrophils and lymphocytes. The extract acts as an acceptor of free radicals and has a positive effect on the adaptive mechanisms of the body under conditions of physiological response to an unfavorable situation.</p>
