“It definitely got my mind whirling:” Building community partnerships for teaching with primary sources
摘要
Despite the growth in digitization and broad access to online instructional resources, relatively few empirical studies in North America have examined how elementary, middle, and secondary teachers are using primary source materials in their classrooms. This article reports on the Diving into Archives! (DIA) project, a research initiative housed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The goal of the project is to build partnerships between archivists and teachers, aiming to support the use of primary sources in classroom settings and to encourage new kinds of historical thinking. This article situates the DIA initiative as an exemplary case for encouraging cross-domain collaboration, by sharing practical strategies for outreach and access efforts, designs for instructional support, and guidance for expanding meaningful collaborations between teachers and archivists.
