Chitinimonas violaceus sp. nov., a violacein-producing and floc-forming bacterium isolated from the activated sludge of a municipal sewage treatment plant in Zhuhai, China
摘要
A novel Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, motile, rod-shaped, violacein-producing and floc-forming bacterium, designated strain PSY-7 T, was isolated from the activated sludge of a municipal sewage treatment plant in Zhuhai, China. Strain PSY-7 T clustered closely with the members of the genus Chitinimonas, which belongs to the family Burkholderiaceae, and showed the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to Chitinimonas taiwanensis cfT (96.84%). Growth occurred at 20–37 °C (optimum, 30 °C), at pH 5.0–10.5 (optimum, pH 7.0), and in the presence of 0–1% (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 0%). Chemotaxonomic analysis of strain PSY-7 T indicated that the sole respiratory quinone was ubiquinone-8, the predominant cellular fatty acids were summed feature 3 (C16:1 ω7c and/or C16:1 ω6c) and C16:0, and the major polar lipids consisted of phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, and several unknown polar lipids. On the basis of its phylogenetic, chemotaxonomic, and genotypic characteristics, strain PSY-7 T represents a novel species of the genus Chitinimonas. Chitinimonas violaceus sp. nov. is proposed with the type strain PSY-7 T (MCCC 1K10194T = KCTC 8263 T). This study identifies activated sludge as a new ecological niche for the genus Chitinimonas.
