Factors Associated with Chemsex Practice Among People Living with HIV in Serbia
摘要
The research aim was to assess factors associated with chemsex among people who live with HIV (PLWH). In spring 2024 participants were recruited through the Center for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Clinic for Infectious and Tropical Diseases in Belgrade (Serbia). Demographic, health behavior and HIV-related data were collected using an anonymous questionnaire. Of 327 PLWH, 61 (18.7%) reported chemsex. Most PLWH who engaged in chemsex were males (96.7% vs. 3.3%). Being younger, binge drinking, using cocaine and poppers were independently associated with engaging in chemsex. These results were consistent in the subsample of men and men who have sex with men. Approximately one in five PLWH in this study reported chemsex practice. Younger PLWH, who use other psychoactive substances, such as, cocaine and poppers, and are heavy drinkers, are more likely to engage in chemsex. Effort should be made to mitigate polysubstance use among PLWH.
