<p>Latent growth curve models (LGCM) were applied to analyze the empathic tendency and self-esteem scores of undergraduate students (<i>n</i> = 97) receiving four-year counselor education over time. Results revealed that the average score of empathy increased 1.096 units, and the average score of self-esteem increased 0.513 units annually. The negative and significant correlations between the intercept and slope calculated from the LGCM for both variables indicated that students with higher empathic tendency or self-esteem in the first year of university experienced a lower increase in their empathic tendency and self-esteem throughout their university education than others.</p>
