<p>The destruction of archaeological heritage during construction projects has remained a vexing issue in Archaeology globally and in West Africa in particular. While considerable advances have been made elsewhere, particularly in the USA and Europe, the practice of pre-construction archaeology is yet to have a firm root in West Africa and Nigeria in particular. This article presents recent efforts at pre-construction archaeology in Benin, Nigeria.</p>
