摘要

Infectious cystic or cystoid lung changes can be caused by bacterial, viral, fungal or parasitic infections. Computed tomography (CT) can differentiate the lesions, some of which show characteristic features but there are also unspecific constellations of findings that pose a diagnostic challenge. During the course of an infection these lesions can also undergo dynamic changes, with cyst-like lesions often appearing in later stages of the disease. Classical examples of lung necrosis that can present as cystic formations include Streptococcus pneumoniae, Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Pneumocystis jirovecii. This article provides an overview of pulmonary infections that can lead to cystic lesions or are manifested as cysts during disease progression.
