Was kann die Pneumologie von der Thoraxchirurgie erwarten?

In recent years thoracic surgery and pneumology have made impressive advances in their diagnostic and therapeutic options. In the surgical treatment of lung cancer, minimally invasive surgery has further reduced the perioperative morbidity. The advent of immunotherapy in early stage disease has led to the development of promising new multimodal treatment concepts, which enable both disciplines to work even more closely together. Minimally invasive surgical procedures have also become established in treating diaphragmatic paresis, surgical lung volume reduction and in the further evaluation of interstitial lung disease in patients selected on a multidisciplinary basis. This article provides an overview of the current developments in thoracic surgery that are relevant to these groups of patients with pulmonary diseases.
