摘要

Aim

To examine factors associated with meeting physical activity (PA) recommendations among working-age women (20–59 years) in Japan.

Subject and methods

This study used data from the 2022 National Sports Life Survey conducted by the Sasakawa Sports Foundation. Data from 935 women aged 20–59 years were analyzed. Poisson regression analysis was performed using data meeting the Japanese PA recommendation determined from responses to the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire as the dependent variable, and age, marital status, presence of children, educational level, equivalized household income, occupational status, confidence in physical fitness, perceived lack of exercise, and city size as independent variables.

Results

Overall, 25.2% of the respondents met the PA recommendations. Meeting PA recommendations was positively associated with the absence of a spouse (prevalence ratio 1.55 [95% confidence interval 1.10, 2.18]). In the 20–39 age group, those who worked full-time were more likely to meet PA recommendations (1.64 [1.01, 2.66]) than those in the other groups. In the 40–59 age group, those without a spouse were significantly more likely to meet PA recommendations (1.65 [1.06, 2.57]). Those with lower equivalized income status and a perceived lack of exercise were significantly less likely to meet PA recommendations.

Conclusion

The results suggest that marital status, equivalized household income, and perceived lack of exercise are associated with meeting PA recommendations among working-age Japanese women.
