Aim <p>This systematic review aims to examine the effects of climate change on these outcomes, synthesizing findings to enhance accessibility to knowledge and provide a resource for future research.</p> Subject and methods <p>A systematic literature search was conducted from December 7 to December 11, 2023, using the PubMed/MEDLINE and Web of Science Direct databases. The inclusion criteria were restricted to observational studies published between 2021 and 2023 in either Turkish or English that address the impacts of climate-change-related environmental exposures on pregnant individuals, with particular emphasis on the postpartum period. From an initial pool of 127,296 records, 23 studies met the eligibility criteria and were included in the final synthesis.</p> Results <p>This review indicates that exposure to extreme heat increases the risk of preterm birth, low birth weight, pregnancy loss, stillbirth, premature rupture of membranes, and preeclampsia. Combined exposure to heat and ozone (O₃) significantly increase the risk of pregnancy loss and stillbirth. Fine particulate matter PM2.5 is associated with preeclampsia and reduced neonatal birth weight, while PM1 is associated with an elevated risk of gestational hypertension. Cold exposure increases maternal blood pressure and the risk of hypertensive disorders during pregnancy.</p> Conclusions <p>The intensification of heat events and the exacerbation of air pollution due to ongoing climate change present significant risks to maternal and neonatal health. The reviewed evidence highlights the necessity for continued research to further understand the complex interactions between environmental exposures and perinatal health outcomes.</p>

Aim
