<p>Bitcoin is currently among the most disruptive and highly controversial topics in the modern world. It provides greater financial liberation that can challenge liberal monetary regimes. On the other hand, the overall social impact, as well as the national one, is still little discussed. Although many are encouraging its implementation on a national scale, by governments, it is necessary to first be clear about the possible risks. Therefore, this research critically analyses the disruptive effects caused by Bitcoin on social structures, government monetary systems, trade and ultimately the environmental and ethical concerns arising from its growth. And although various attempts are made to regulate it and mitigate its adverse effects, the extremely negative results show that we are still far from its real application and adoption, questioning its real future benefits.</p>
