Effect of Boric Acid on Enhancing Salt Tolerance in Grapevine Rootstocks
摘要
Wood cuttings of the ‘41B’ and ‘1103 P’ rootstocks were used as plant material. Cuttings were planted in perlite-filled trays and, upon reaching the 9th developmental stage, foliar applications of H3BO3 at 0, 0.5, 1, and 2 mM were applied by spraying. Following boric acid treatment, some cuttings were grown under saline conditions (5120 ppm NaCl). After 8 weeks, shoot, root, and physiological parameters were measured.
The ‘1103 P’ rootstock showed superior shoot development compared to ‘41 B’ and benefited more from the positive effects of boron under salt stress. In saline conditions, 0.5 mM boron improved shoot fresh and dry weights in ‘41B’, suggesting it as an optimal dose for this rootstock. Boron applications at 0.5 and 1 mM also positively supported root development under salt stress. At these concentrations, ion flux was significantly reduced under salinity. Overall ‘1103 P’ maintained better water and physiological balance than ‘41 B’.
