<p>Postharvest quality and food safety are major concerns associated with fungicide overuse and human health hazards. This study was carried out during the years 2022–23 and 2023–24 to evaluate the effects of <i>Ocimum viride</i> essential oil (EO, 2%) and its major component eugenol (1%) based-water and shellac nanoemulsions on preserving fruit quality and extending the cold storage life of Kinnow mandarin. The fruits were stored at 5 ± 2 °C and 90–95% Relative humidity (RH) and examined for various quality parameters, including physiological loss in weight (PLW), spoilage, firmness, total soluble solids (TSS), titratable acidity (TA), ascorbic acid (AA) content, and reducing sugar (RS) levels upto 60&#xa0;days. The results indicated that&#xa0;<i>O. viride</i> EO (2%) and eugenol (1%) based shellac nanoemulsions exhibited reduction of spoilage by 2.46% and 1.93%, respectively compared to shellac (SH) coatings (3.70%) over a&#xa0;period of 60&#xa0;days under cold store conditions. The fruits treated with&#xa0;<i>O. viride</i> EO (2%) and eugenol (1%) based shellac nanoemulsions control PLW to 2.77% and 1.64%, respectively compared to SH coatings (3.07%) for 60&#xa0;days with acceptable organoleptic attributes. Rheology studies revealed that Herschel-Bulkley model best fit the coating treatments with an R<sup>2</sup> value &gt; 0.99. Among the treatments, the eugenol-based shellac coating (E/S, 1%) was the most effective in preserving fruit quality and sensory attributes throughout the storage period.</p>
