Climate Change Effects on Nutrient Dynamics and Phenology of Mango (Mangifera indica L.) Under Medium-Density Planting: A BBCH Scale Assessment

Rising global temperatures pose a serious threat to tropical mango production by disrupting nutrient dynamics and phenological development. This study assessed the influence of nutrient management strategies on the phenology and nutrient status of mango (Mangifera indica L. cv. ‘Dashehari’) under a medium-density (5 × 5 m) planting system at Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUA&T), Pantnagar, Uttarakhand, India, during 2023–2024. A total of 10 nutrient treatments combining different proportions of the recommended fertilizer dose (RDF) with soil- and foliar-applied micronutrients were evaluated in a randomized block design. Phenological stages were recorded using the BBCH scale and analyzed with SAS 9.2. Among the treatments, T8 (75% RDF + two foliar sprays) showed the most consistent advancement across key phenological stages and improved resilience under climatic stress. In contrast, T1 (100% RDF) and T2 exhibited slower progression. High rainfall during bud development and low temperatures during flowering notably influenced phenological responses. Overall, integrated nutrient management through T8 effectively enhanced phenological performance and mitigated climate-induced disruptions in mango productivity. The BBCH scale proved reliable for standardized phenological monitoring and offers valuable insights for climate-resilient mango cultivation.
