<p>A&#xa0;study of citrus canker diseases was conducted during 2014–2016 in three districts of Uttarakhand—Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, and Dehradun—including a survey of 13 citrus-growing areas in the region to assess the status of the disease and for the morphological and cultural characterization of <i>Xanthomonas axonopodis </i>pv. <i>citri</i> isolates from these regions. The survey revealed disease severity and incidence rates of 22.5–55% and&#xa0;20–70%, respectively, in different localities. The highest disease severity was recorded in the Dehradun region with a percent disease index (PDI) of 55%, while the lowest disease severity was recorded in the Golapar region of Nainital district with 22.5–25% PDI. The diseased samples collected from the surveyed locations were studied for morphological and cultural characterization. All the isolates showed variability in pigmentation, growth pattern, and colony type. Although the pathogen forms typical yellow-colored, raised, and mucoid colonies when cultured on Wokimoto medium, all isolates showed short rod-shaped cells with rounded ends when observed under a&#xa0;scanning electron microscope. For cultural characterization, all isolates were grown on different culture media containing various carbon sources and nitrogen sources. The study revealed that all isolates grew best on Wokimoto medium. Among different carbon sources used, sucrose-rich medium showed the best growth, while for the nitrogen sources, calcium nitrate-rich medium yielded the best results.</p>
