Evaluation of Agromorphological and Yield Traits in Strawberry (Fragaria X ananassa Duch.) Genotypes Under Hydroponic Cultivation
摘要
Strawberry is well adapted to open-field soil-based cultivation; however, biotic and abiotic stresses limit its productivity. Hydroponic culture results in almost no loss due to soil-borne diseases, enabling sufficient water and nutrient availability to the roots. The presents study aimed to explore the genetic potential of 12 strawberry genotypes in a hydroponic system using cocopeat with a nutrient solution containing all essential nutrients through the mean performance of genotypes, analysis of variance (ANOVA), genetic variability, correlation-path analysis, and principal component analysis. All studied traits revealed significant variations. The highest genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV; 94.14%) and phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV; 121.43%) were observed for mortality (%), followed by the estimated yield from 1000 sq. m. (98.05% and 104.39%, respectively), average fruit yield per plant (87.26% and 92.46%, respectively), and average berry weight (60.81% and 65.80%, respectively). The average yield per plant had the highest positive contribution (genotypic path coefficient [pg] = 0.953, and phenotypic path coefficient [pp] = 0.798), followed by the average number of fruits per plant (pg = 0.821 and pp = 0.984), toward the estimated yield in strawberry through direct effects. ‘Sweet Sensation,’ ‘San Andreas,’ ‘Winter Dawn,’ ‘Dhankaur,’ and ‘Rania’ genotypes contributed the most to first and second principal components (PC1 and PC2). However, the principal component analysis (PCA) biplot showed that ‘Rania’ and Winter Dawn’ are aligned with growth- and yield-related vectors and are reported to be clustered in a single group due to their unique characteristics. The genotypes ‘Rania,’ ‘Nabila,’ ‘Winter Dawn,’ ‘Sweet Charlie,’ and ‘Winter Star’ showed superior agromorphological traits similar to ‘Camarosa’ and can be recommended for hydroponic cultivation.
