Differential Responses of Potassic and Nano-potassic Based Fertilizers on the Performance of Sweet Orange cv. ‘Mosambi’ Production and Quality Attributes

The present study was conducted at the Horticultural Farm, School of Agriculture, Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, India, during the academic years 2023 and 2024. The experiment evaluated the effects of potassium nitrate (KNO3) in both conventional and nano-fertilizer forms at varying concentrations on ‘Mosambi’ plants. A randomized block design (RBD) with three replications was adopted for the trial. Conventional KNO3 and nano-KNO3 solutions were prepared at specific concentrations and applied as foliar sprays during May, June, and July. The treatments included T1 (control), T2 (1% conventional KNO3), T3 (0.5% conventional KNO3), T4 (1.5% conventional KNO3), T5 (0.5% nano-KNO3), T6 (0.75% nano-KNO3), T7 (1% nano-KNO3), and T8 (1.5% nano-KNO3). The results demonstrated that foliar application of 1% nano-KNO3 (T7) produced the most significant outcomes on leaf parameters, which were macronutrients (N: 4.32%, P: 1.64%, K: 2.93%, Ca: 4.14%, Mg: 0.77%, S: 1.66%) and micronutrients (Fe: 135.63 ppm, Mn: 14.6 ppm, Zn: 83.5 ppm, Cu: 28.03 ppm, B: 93.5 ppm, except for molybdenum), chlorophyll content (71.9 mg/g), leaf area (51.05 cm2), fruit parameters comprising fruit length (71.21 mm), fruit width (68.46 mm), fruit weight (186.74 g), fruit volume (90.3 cm3), and yield attributes, which were 42 fruits per shoot, 201 fruits per plant, and 41.5 kg yield per plant, thereby surpassing the performance under conventional KNO3 treatments.
