Monitoring the Effect of Seasonal Weather Fluctuations On Yield and Quality Characteristics of Distinct Wine Grape Cultivars (V. vinifera L.) Grown in Turkey’s Thrace Region: a Comparative Analysis of 2017 and 2018

Seasonal weather variations have a profound impact on wine-grape growing regions of the world and grape development, ultimately impacting the quality and characteristics of the resulting wine. Today, the assessment of seasonal weather variations through the use of climatic indices has emerged as a crucial tool in understanding and adapting to the changing dynamics of wine grape-growing regions. The present study was conducted to determine the effects of seasonal weather variations between the years 2017 and 2018 on the yield and quality characteristics of different wine grape cultivars, including ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’, ‘Merlot’ and ‘Syrah’ grown in Tekirdağ province in the Thrace region of Turkey. In the research, the effects of seasonal weather alterations on the yield and quality traits of three different wine grape cultivars were determined by using Winkler indice, Branas heliothermic indice, Huglin heliothermic indice and Cool night indice during two years. As a result of the study, the climate indices calculated for the research region revealed that the 2018 climate characteristics had more favorable effects on the yield and quality attributes of different wine grape cultivars when the compared with 2017.
