Conjoint Effects of Paclobutrazol and Nanonutrients on the Flowering, Fruiting, and Quality of ‘Allahabad Safeda’ Guava (Psidium Guajava L.)

A field experiment was conducted at Lovely Professional University, Phagwara (Punjab), India, between 2023 and 2024 to examine the combined effects of paclobutrazol and nanonutrients on the flowering, fruiting, and fruit quality of guava (Psidium guajava L.) cv. ‘Allahabad Safeda’. The study utilized a two-factor randomized block design with four levels of paclobutrazol—P0 (control), P1 (1.5 ml/m canopy), P2 (3 ml/m canopy), P3 (4.5 ml/m canopy), and four levels of nanonutrients—N0 (control), N1 (nanocalcium @ 2%), N2 (nanoboron @ 0.05%), N3 (nanozinc @ 0.1%), resulting in 16 treatment combinations. Paclobutrazol was applied to the soil beneath the canopy, while nanonutrients were foliar-applied at 50-day intervals. The combination of paclobutrazol @ 3 ml/m canopy (P2) with nanoboron @ 0.05% (N2) significantly improved reproductive traits, including fruit set (58.33%, 59.29%), number of fruits per shoot (13.96, 14.10), fruit retention (50.35%, 49.73%), flower reduction (41.19%, 38.25%) and fruit drop (49.65%, 50.27%). Additionally, treatment with P2 combined with nanocalcium @ 2% (N1) enhanced fruit quality by lowering the titratable acidity (1.27%, 1.32%) and increasing the antioxidant activity (83.46%, 80.63%), total soluble solids (10.69°Brix, 10.40°Brix), and ascorbic acid content (269.05 mg/100 g, 266.23 mg/100 g). These results indicate that the combination of paclobutrazol @ 3 ml/m canopy with nanoboron promotes flowering and fruiting, whereas its combination with nanocalcium improves fruit quality in guava.
