Effects of Spermidine, Putrescine, and Chitosan Coatings on the Postharvest Storage Life of Pear Fruits in Different Packaging

The nutritional value of fruits is attributed to the presence of beneficial compounds for human health. This study focused on investigating the parameters influencing changes in the chemical characteristics of ‘Spadona’ pear fruits. These parameters include the loading force, three types of plastic packaging (ziplock plastic, plastic containers with lids, and unpackaged), and three types of polyamine coatings (spermidine, putrescine, and chitosan). The samples were kept in cold storage for 15 days. The results on the chemical properties were analyzed using the software SAS. The highest levels of total phenol and flavonoid contents were observed in the spermidine coating and ziplock plastic packaging, with values of 30.01 mg GAE/g and 78.24 mg QE/g, respectively. Moreover, the highest antioxidant and solid substance contents were 48.24% and 11.5%, respectively. In conclusion, ziplock plastic coating and spermidine treatment proved to be the most suitable packaging methods, and the concentration of putrescine coating was optimal for preserving pear fruit characteristics in this study.
