<p><i>Actinidia deliciosa</i> C.F.&#xa0;Liang et A.R.&#xa0;Ferguson is an economically important fruit crop widely distributed on the Asian continent. In Pakistan it is a&#xa0;newly introduced fruit plant and is under trial for possible cultivation in Hazara Region. The comparative efficiency of alternative organic fertilizers on the growth of kiwifruit seedling rootstock was assessed using garden soil (GS), silt (ST), peat moss (PM), and compost (CP) alone and in different combinations. Field trials and laboratory analysis were conducted at the National Tea and High-Value Crops Research Institute (NTHRI), Shinkiari, Manshera (KP) Pakistan. This experiment was plotted in a&#xa0;completely randomized design with 24&#xa0;treatments containing 3&#xa0;replications and 15&#xa0;seedlings per replication for 2&#xa0;consecutive years. Organic applications significantly (<i>p</i> ≤ 0.05) enhanced soil pH (6.57–8.00) by providing adequate soil electrical conductivity (EC) of 4.90&#xa0;dS/m and a&#xa0;well-balanced nutrient ratio in the soil. The highest pH (8.00) and organic matter (2.43%) were recorded in treatment&#xa0;4 (T4; PM), while the highest nitrogen (0.86%) level was recorded in T21 (GS + PM 3:1), the highest phosphorous (16.13 ppm) in T14 (CP + PM 1:1), and the highest potassium (153 ppm) in T8 (PM + NPK). The PM treatment showed the best results for seedling survival rate (100%), supreme plant height (236.33 cm ± 2.494), number of leaves per plant (25.67), shoot fresh mass (64 g), shoot dry mass (31.67 g), root length (54.67 cm), root fresh mass (92.33 g), and root dry mass (75.33 g) after 180&#xa0;days of application. The highest mortality was recorded in T3 (CP), that is, 91.67%. In addition, most of the organic applications resulted in an enhanced seedling survival rate (69–100%) compared to the control, which is a&#xa0;common quality index. Peat moss yielded the best results for all quality parameters of kiwifruit seedlings, as indicated by the strong positive correlations among physiological traits. This may contribute to the successful establishment of kiwifruit seedlings in the field.</p> Graphic abstract <p></p>
