Competitiveness in Global Cherry Exports: Analysis of Comparative Advantages of Countries
摘要
Competitiveness refers to a country’s ability to effectively produce and sell goods and services in international markets. The Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), Symmetric Revealed Comparative Advantage (SRCA) and Normalized Revealed Comparative Advantage (NRCA) indices were used to evaluate the competitiveness of countries that play an important role in cherry production. The aim of the study is to determine the competitiveness of countries in cherry exports through these indices and to provide strategic suggestions in line with these findings.
The study analyzed the export performance of the top ten cherry producing countries between 2013 and 2022, using data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Research shows that Chile has consistently had a strong competitive advantage in cherry exports over the past 10 years. Although Türkiye, Greece and Uzbekistan have strong competitive advantages from time to time, they need strategic improvements for sustainable competitiveness. Iran, Italy and Poland are generally at a disadvantage.
Based on these findings, countries should strengthen agricultural policies, modernize production technologies and raise international quality standards. In addition, countries should aim to increase their competitiveness in the global market by developing effective marketing strategies and optimizing logistics processes. These strategies will both contribute to the country’s economy and strengthen the countries’ position in the global market by increasing their competitiveness in cherry exports.
