<p>Recently, (Ramirez and Muñoz, J Ornithol, 2024) rebutte to the study by (Onrubia et al., J Ornithol 165:747–757, 2024), about the presence of Rüppell’s Vulture in Europe, arguing specifically that data related to the autumn migration of vultures over the Strait of Gibraltar are flawed. They argued that errors and inconsistencies in the figures for Griffon and Rüppell’s Vultures, omission of key data from certain years, and discrepancies in the timing of monitoring periods and the inappropriate selection of observatories, undermine the study’s reliability and could potentially affect conservation strategies for the critically endangered Rüppell’s Vulture. Below we address the arguments presented by (Ramirez and Muñoz, J Ornithol, 2024), indicating that the data used are not manipulated, and that the monitoring protocols in the Strait are an adequate proxy of the passage of Ruppel's vultures, which show an increase in the number of records of this species in recent decades, involving a few dozen individuals each year.</p>
