American Robin (Turdus migratorius) feeding young at night in an area of artificial light

Light influences physiological and behavioral processes among many species of birds. Here, we present evidence of nest attendance by a pair of American Robins (Turdus migratorius) affected by light pollution. We used camera traps to record differences in American Robins provisioning young at night, contrasting between nests affected by different levels of light. We observed night provisioning at one nest in an area located within artificial light at night. We believe this record of night feeding by a passerine is the first record of this type showcasing a change in breeding behavior as modified by anthropogenic light source.
