摘要

The study was conducted at the Norman E. Borlaug Crop Research Centre (CRC), G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand, India, to evaluate the effects of soil moisture regimes on wheat growth, yield, and water use efficiency under surface irrigation. Eight treatments (T1 to T8) were tested, each maintaining different soil moisture levels at three depths (0–15 cm, 15–30 cm, and 30–45 cm), ranging from 21 to 38%. The results revealed that maintaining soil moisture within specific ranges significantly affected wheat productivity and water usage. Notably, Treatment T6 (22–32%, 27–38%, 28–35.5%) showed superior growth parameters, grain yield, and water productivity, followed by T3 and T2. Treatment T3 demonstrated the highest water use efficiency (11.34 kg/ha-mm), while T6 achieved the highest grain yield (5.15 t/ha). These findings underscore the importance of soil moisture profiling and optimized irrigation strategies in enhancing crop productivity and water conservation.
