First report of fruit apex ripe rot of citrus caused by Diaporthe citri
摘要
In 2016 and 2018, rot symptoms around the fruit apex were observed on citrus cultivars 'Shiranui' and 'Setoka', respectively, in Ehime Prefecture, Japan. Based on morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis, the isolated fungi from the rotting tissue were identified as Diaporthe citri, which is known to cause melanose on the surface of citrus tissues and stem-end rot by invading the fruit through the pedicel after harvest. This symptom spread from the area around the pistil tip, which remained at the fruit apex. Since this is the first report, we propose to name this symptom "fruit apex ripe rot" of citrus.
