Whole-genome sequencing reveals Xanthomonas hortorum pv. vitians and a candidate novel Paracidovorax species associated with lettuce leaf spot in Trinidad
摘要
Bacteria associated with lettuce leaf spot in Trinidad were isolated and their pathogenicity was confirmed. Based on the yellow mucoid and creamy white colonies and PCR amplification and sequencing of bacterial DNA, the pathogens were identified as Xanthomonas and Paracidovorax species. Whole-genome sequencing of Paracidovorax BLS4 and Xanthomonas BLS9 revealed two distinct bacterial species causing leaf spot of lettuce. BLS9 was identified as Xanthomonas hortorum pv. vitians and shared an average 98.37% nucleotide identity with Xanthomonas hortorum pv. cynarae GCF_002939985.1 (CFBP4188). BLS4 shared an average 88.7% nucleotide identity with Paracidovorax valerianellae GCF_900102625.1 (DSM 16619), thus represents a candidate new species of Paracidovorax. In a glasshouse, the pathogens caused similar symptoms in the tested conditions. This report is the first of a candidate novel Paracidovorax species causing leaf spot in lettuce and provides a complete genome sequence.
