<p>In 2023, cucumber (<i>Cucumis sativus</i> L.) plants in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, older leaves developed yellowing, which was suspected to be caused by a virus. To identify the virus species extracted from the yellowing leaves, we sequenced its complete genome. The deduced amino acid sequence of the virus had 93.7–99.3% sequence identities with the cucurbit aphid-borne yellows virus (CABYV) collected in Japan, South Korea and China. We showed that the virus was transmitted by <i>Aphis gossypii</i> Glover. This is the first report of the occurrence of CABYV in Japan.</p>
