摘要

Columnea latent viroid (CLVd; genus Pospiviroid) was detected in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) seeds produced in Thailand in 2021 during the export inspection. Inoculated tomato plants developed severe stunting and stem and leaf vein necrosis, similar to the highly virulent variant, suggesting that CLVd remained infective in the seeds. BLAST analysis revealed the complete genome shared the highest identity (98.9%) with the mild strain of CLVd (accession JF446929) found in Thailand, differed in two nucleotides in the variable (V) domain, and is a new variant. This finding suggests the nucleotides in the V domain impact virulence.
