<p>Genetically linked sleep-related epilepsies with hypermotor or hyperkinetic seizures are a&#xa0;rare and heterogeneous group of usually frontal lobe epilepsies with sleep-related seizures, which were initially classified as nonepileptic. A&#xa0;distinction is now made between autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive and&#xa0;X-chromosome linked forms but all the genes involved are not yet known. The forms so far described and the current diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations are presented.</p>

Genetically linked sleep-related epilepsies with hypermotor or hyperkinetic seizures are a rare and heterogeneous group of usually frontal lobe epilepsies with sleep-related seizures, which were initially classified as nonepileptic. A distinction is now made between autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive and X-chromosome linked forms but all the genes involved are not yet known. The forms so far described and the current diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations are presented.
