To keep or to delete: exploring the influencing factors of information deletion intention among social music platform users
摘要
This study aims to explore the factors influencing information deletion intention among users of social music platforms. It addresses the gap in understanding how users manage their personal data on these platforms, particularly their intentions to delete information. The research is grounded in the Theory of Objective Self-Awareness and “defensive-acquisitive” information management theory. The study involved an analysis of data collected from 428 users of social music platforms. This empirical approach allowed for a comprehensive examination of various factors that might influence users’ intentions to delete their information. The findings reveal a significant positive impact of information security concerns on users’ intention to delete personal data. Interestingly, social conflict was not found to significantly influence this intention. The study also highlights the importance of the field environment and the perceived value of content in shaping users’ decisions to delete information. Furthermore, online self-disclosure was observed to positively impact information deletion intention and to moderate the relationship between information security concerns and deletion intention. The study enhances our understanding of the dynamics behind information deletion on social music platforms. It underscores the importance of information security and personal disclosure in influencing users’ data management behaviors. These insights are crucial for the design and optimization of user experiences on social music platforms, potentially leading to innovation and improved user retention.
